YOUGHAL ROTARY CLUB YOUTH LEADERSHIP COMPETITION 2009/2010

Youghal Rotary Club are delighted to introduce the six candidates in the local round of the Rotary Ireland Youth Leadership Competition. On Friday November 20th interviews took place at The Red Store to select our club's representative in the regional final.

The Regional Final will be held in Waterford, hosted by the Waterford Rotary Club. Many Rotary Clubs from nearby areas will form a 'cluster' and all the club candidates will go on to be interviewed at WIT within the next few weeks.

Our 'cluster' group will have candidates from the Rotary Club's of Carlow, Clonmel, Enniscorthy, Kilkenny, Portlaoise, Thurlas, Waterford,, Wexford and ourselves....Youghal. Three winners and one runner-up will be chosen from all the clubs present in our cluster area and will secure a place with the national Youth Leadership Group travelling to Strassbourg in February 2010.

A total of 24 Youth Leaders will represent Rotary Ireland at the Euroscola sitting in Strassbourg on February 12th 2010, joining many other European Rotary Club's and their teams.

Next February's trip will run along the same style and pattern as previous years. All winners will meet for the first time in Belfast and learn about government and culture in Northern Ireland, then the group will travel to Dublin and learn about government and culture in Southern Ireland before setting off for Strassbourg on February 11th 2010 to present and debate our motions at Euroscola. Hopefully travel will be scheduled between 7th - 14th February 2010.

The Area Finals

The Youghal Rotary Club's candidate in the regional final of the Youth Leadership Developement competition was Dawn Donovan. Dawn is pictured with The President of Waterford Rotary Club Niall Morrissey and in the group picture is Joe Kenny Youth Activities Chair of Waterford Rotary Club and fellow Rotarians along with the other candidates in the competition. This was Youghal Rotary's first venture into the Youth Developement competition and our congratulations to Dawn on reaching the Regional Finals. It was a wonderful experience for Dawn and for the club to firstly have such an interest at local level and to proceed to the final which was held at W.I.T.
All the candidates and Rotarians went on to have lunch in the hospitality building at W.I.T.and the event was a very pleasent and rewarding experience both for Dawn and the Youghal Rotary Club.
